Abstract: Diversity is a key characteristic of the United States workforce, especially in the field of statistics. Today, many US statistics students or working statisticians attained their primary education outside of the country. Differences in mathematical education around the world exist and may influence a statistician’s thought process and collaboration with colleagues. Here we explore the differences as well as the similarities of primary pre-university math and statistics education worldwide. Five panelists who now work or study in the United States but received their primary education in another country will share how their educational experiences helped to shape the statistician they are today. Panelists will represent China, France, India, Romania, and the USA.
